Elaine Choi, who was born and raised in Vancouver BC, is currently going into her last year of finishing her Bachelor of Commerce with major in Finance. This is Elaine’s second year of being an executive member for the UBC Finance Club; this year she hopes her strong leadership, organizational and communication skills can further enhance the already prestigious reputation of the club. Elaine is a very outgoing and ambitious individual who has aspirations of going to Law School after finishing her Bachelor’s Degree at UBC. She also plans to take her CFA Level 1 exam in December of this year. Other than her interest in Finance, Elaine has competitively danced for 10 years and enjoys reading in her free time.

Andrew Li is currently in his third year of the Bachelor of Commerce program with a major in Finance. Andrew was the Chief Information Officer for the Club this past year; this year he hopes to bring his strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to drive the continual growth and success of the Club. His primary objectives for the club is to continue developing and creating new opportunities that connect students with the financial industry. He has recently completed the Canadian Securities Course and has begun preparing for the CFA Level One Examination. Outside of academics, Andrew plays badminton regularly, enjoys a good game of poker, and reads at coffee shops all across Vancouver.

Peter Stein | Advisor

Peter Stein is a native of Vancouver, and strives to bring his experience in organizational leadership and entrepreneurship to the UBC Finance Club for the benefit of all its stakeholders. Through founding many organizations and leading many others, Peter has built a strong portfolio of expertise and hopes to execute on that experience towards the continuation of a standard of excellence through all UBC Finance Club operations. Outside of academics Peter has managed an investment portfolio that has successfully funded his education, and enjoys reading economic and financial classics. In recreation Peter spends most of his time at the rink honing his skills while playing on the returning Western Canadian Regional Champions.

Jayden Jiang | Chief Financial Officer

Jayden is a 2nd year Sauder student at UBC, who has a passion in finance. He believes that UBC Finance Club is a great investment that yields a high rate of return for its members. As club members invest their time with the Finance Club, they will, in return, gain a peripheral experience that encompasses networking with professionals, learning about financial industries, and participating in competitions and conferences. As the Chief Financial Officer, Jayden will be overseeing the budget to provide adequate funding for all club endeavours. Through allocation of funds, he will ensure the success of Finance Club events and a memorable and insightful experience to all members. Jayden will also be coordinating the Portfolio Management Competition this year. Through this Competition, Jayden will encourage long term investments based on Graham and Dodd’s concept of value investing, and provide a valuable learning experience about the securities market to the participants. In his spare time, Jayden enjoys kickboxing, playing basketball, and go karting.

Rodney Chan is in his fourth year of a Bachelor of Commerce specializing in finance and international business at the Sauder School of Business. He is a forward-thinking, resourceful individual with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Rodney is the recipient of a number of prestigious scholarships including the British Columbia District Scholarship and the UBC Go Global Scholarship. In his third year, Rodney pursued his interest in finance by studying abroad at the University of Hong Kong where he excelled in finance related courses. In addition, he made use of the excellent opportunities to network with business professionals in multiple industries. To supplement his semester studying abroad, Rodney travelled to China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. He is currently studying for the CFA level 1 exam (December 2010) and is completing the Canadian Securities Course this summer. In his spare time, Rodney enjoys actively investing, traveling, playing sports, and networking.

Jaime Robb | Director of Partner Relations

Jaime Robb is a third-year student pursuing a degree in economics. In December 2009, he qualified for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games as a member of the Canadian National Biathlon Team. After a career which included six Biathlon World Championships and more than twenty World Cup appearances, he decided to return to full-time studies in Vancouver. Jaime seeks to foster his interest in finance and develop his competency in asset management by taking an active role in managing a personal investment portfolio. He is looking forward to helping further the UBC Finance Club’s mandate of building constructive relationships between the school and the financial industry. In his spare time, Jaime plays a leadership role in the community through ESTEEM Team public speaking presentations and volunteer coaching with the West Coast Nordic Ski Club. Recently married, he acknowledges the unwavering support of his wife Dominique and dog, Nanuk.

Jennifer Ngai is a third year Accounting Co-op student pursuing a Chartered Accountant designation. Upon graduation, she hopes to gain industry experience in risk management and project management in the banking and insurance industries. Her interest in the finance industry comes from her belief that knowledge in fund management is vital to everyone who, ironically, do not want to have to be worried about money. Outside of school, Jennifer tutors mathematics and delivers workshops on educating youth entrepreneurship, workforce preparedness, and financial coaching. Jennifer loves meeting new people, immersing in a good book, traveling, watching hockey games, and trying out new restaurants.

Julie Shin is in her second year in the Sauder School of Business, and intends to declare a specialization in Finance. She is excited to join Finance Club this year after attending and volunteering at many Finance Club events. As the Director of Events: Networking, Julie plans to hold both the Career Night and Wine & Cheese in the first semester to expose more students to the finance industry and allow more networking opportunities. She is also very excited to be working with the new executives this year to build rapport and exchange knowledge on the current events and economy. Apart from Finance Club, Julie likes to spend her time exploring new, exotic restaurants in Vancouver or going to hot yoga classes with her friends.

A 2nd year BComm candidate, Jackie is currently pursuing a major in Finance supplemented by a minor in Mathematics. His strong mathematical background has earned him multiple awards and recognition in national competitions. He endeavours to employ his extensive experience in the consumer retail sector to not only broaden horizons for the UBC Finance Club, but also to reach out to the community and garner interest for the field. Spearheading the Financial Awareness Program, he aims to establish an unprecedented growth in the reaches of the program by undertaking an aggressive strategy to extend the club’s influence to secondary schools across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. In his spare time, Jackie enjoys a relaxing swim at the pool.

Mandy is going into second year as a Commerce student while assimilating the different aspects of business with an open mind. Taking part in the 2010 BC Portfolio Management Competition has sparked Mandy’s curiosity about Finance, which led her to take the initiative in joining the UBCFC Executive team. As the Director of Administration, Mandy brings her leadership and administrative planning experiences along with the passion to expand her knowledge in areas of Finance. She also wishes to reach out to students that want to explore what Finance is all about. She is looking forward to participate in the National Investment Banking Competition and growing together with the UBCFC team. Aside from academics, Mandy enjoys improvising music on the piano, ballroom dancing, and playing competitive volleyball with her friends.

Marie is a third year Commerce student interested in pursuing a specialization in Finance along with a minor in Mathematics. This is her second year serving as the Director of Communications of the UBC Finance Club. She speaks English, Chinese Mandarin, French and Japanese. Other than receiving her Performer’s A.R.C.T in Piano, she has not achieved anything significant so far in her life. During her spare time she enjoys playing piano, cooking and visiting museums. Ivneet Bains | Second Year Representative

Ivneet Bains is a second year student at UBC, intending to major in Finance. Being a second year representative in the Finance Club Exec Team, Ivneet is very excited to learn about the actual world of Finance and learn from the leadership of Finance Club senior members. Ivneet came to Canada from India in 2007 and since then has volunteered with a number of organizations including Surrey Parks and Recreation, Surrey Memorial Hospital, Green Timbers Urban Forestry Advisory Committee, Reading Week Project and Urban Dash Executive Committee. He has also worked a Canada Revenue and at UBC Access and Diversity. He is a national player of Cricket and was awarded the Highest Run Scorer Award for 2009 season. Ivneet enjoys economics and math a lot and was awarded the Governor General’s Medal of Academic Excellence in 2009. At UBC, he achieved the Gold Level Certificate in the VP’s Emerging Leaders Program in April 2010. In his free time, Ivneet enjoys reading newspaper, talking to strangers on Skytrain, attending weddings and listening to music.

Rita Lee is excited in beginning her role as the second year representative for the UBC Finance Club. As a second year student at the Sauder School of business she is looking forward in expanding her interest in this option through her involvement in this club! It’s going to be an exciting year. She’s always been interested in the stock market and the fast paced intensity of the finance industry. Jacky So | Director of Competition

Jacky was amazed by the First National Investment Banking Competition and took initiative to take part this year. A fourth year Finance Co-op student, Jacky has been actively involved in the community, as President of the Richmond Almeta Lions Club, and at school, as Vice President of the Co-op Student Association of Sauder. Jacky’s passion for Finance was through his experience working in equity research focusing on junior mining and as a financial analyst focusing on credit analysis. Realizing that finance is multifaceted with much to learn, Jacky journeyed into the markets in search of additional knowledge. He has recently completed the CFA level one examination, the Canadian Securities Course, and the Technical Analysis Course. Currently, Jacky’s interest is in valuation and is taking a course to learn more. Jacky hopes that his passion and curiosity can make the Second National Investment Banking Competition as astonishing as last year!

Jose is a fourth year finance student highly interested in pursuing a career in the Capital Markets. He was born in Ecuador and became interested in the financial industry when he was exposed to the markets as a trader and has been working on improving his financial skills since then. He is currently enrolled in the CFA program and is completing various courses in valuation.As the Director External of the National Investment Banking Competition and Conference 2011 he looks forward to developing a comprehensive event that creates memorable experiences for all attendees. His focus would be on attracting and developing relationships with remarkable delegates, speakers, and competitors from across the country and internationally. In his spare time he likes to go to the gym and the swimming pool and enjoys reading news about finance.
